Extra Curricular

There are a wealth of opportunities at Berrywood for your child to take part in extra-curricular activities, whether they are interested in sport, the visual and performing arts or enjoy the natural environment.

  • Sporting Opportunities

Sports leader – quality first teaching Our full time sports and physical development leader has been developing and leading the teaching of PE at Berrywood since 2014. He teaches alongside classroom teachers to improve their skills and knowledge in delivering sequences of PE lessons. Extra-curricular clubs Our sports leader also ensures we are able to provide a huge range of before and after school sports clubs. These change each half term to ensure that we cover a wide variety of sports and activities. These clubs are incredibly popular with children and parents. Competitive sport We are proud to enter boys and girls teams into competitions across an impressive range of sports. We also hold regular ‘inter-house’ sports competitions through the year. Our aim is for all children, irrespective of perceived ‘ability’, to be able to enjoy the benefits of competitive sports. Children are given the opportunity to sign up for extra-curricular sports clubs on a half termly basis.

  • Visual & Performing Arts

Summer Production Every year we provide the opportunity for children in Year 4, Year 5, and Year 6 to take part in a summer production. These shows are performed to enthusiastic audiences of parents and other children in the school. They include singing, dancing and acting and are always incredibly well received. Year 6 pupils Achieve This summer show is a treasured favourite amongst pupils, staff and parents alike. Taking place in the Berry Theatre at Wildern, our children create, choreograph and produce their own show to celebrate their achievements, having reached the end point of their primary education. Choirs & singing assemblies We have flourishing choirs in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Some of the inspiration for these comes from our singing assemblies, which are led by our Music Lead. Our choirs are growing in size and have performed at a range of exciting venues. Instrumental lessons All pupils in Year 4 learn three different instruments as part of the government’s ‘Listen to Me’ initiative. We also provide opportunities for a good range of instrumental lessons with qualified teachers.
