Starting School

Whether you are looking for a place for your child to start with us in Year R or are moving your child in year from another school, hopefully you can find all of the information you need on this page.

  • When can I apply for my pre-school child to start school?

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016, they will be eligible to start school in the school year beginning September 2020. From 1st November 2019 you can apply online at www.hants.gov.uk/admissions. For those without internet connection you can collect an application form from our school.

  • Do you have any open days for prospective Year R parents?

From mid October and through November, our Year 6 children conduct tours of the school with small groups of prospective Year R parents. During this tour there is an opportunity to talk with a member of our Year R team and a member of the Senior Leadership Team. To book on a tour, please contact our school from the beginning of October either by telephoning the school reception on 01489 780068 or emailing office@berrywoodprimary.co.uk

  • Do you operate waiting lists?

The school operates a waiting list which strictly adheres to the Hampshire County Council admissions policy criteria. Please note that this is a dynamic list which can change as people move into and out of the area.

  • I would like to move my child to your school, how do I go about this and can I arrange a visit?

In the first instance you must fill out an in year application form on the Hampshire County Council admissions website. We welcome telephone calls to establish whether we currently have places and if a waiting list is in operation for that particular year group. If we are in a position to offer you a place we will arrange a visit for you and your child to come and meet us. Unfortunately, due to the size of our school and length of our waiting lists, we do not routinely offer tours of the school unless we are in a position to offer you a place.

  • If I am on a waiting list, how long would I usually wait?

Unfortunately we are unable to answer this as it is dependent on whether a family leaves our school or not and also the dynamic nature of the waiting list. Once you are on our waiting list, you will remain on it until the 31st August of the academic year you apply. After this, if you have not been offered a place and wish to remain on our list, you will need to re-apply.

  • How do I find out if I live in your catchment area?

You can kind find a list of the roads in our catchment area on the link below or clicking on the following link to HCC.
